Princesses need pink dresses

Princesses – and cute little girls – need princess dresses, everybody knows that...

Princesses without princess dresses are like….
…hippies without tie-dyed skirts
…families without Volvo station wagons
…or in Amsterdam: families without delivery bikes
…real estate agents without ill-fitting striped suits
…teenagers without Uggs
…toilets without magazines
…women in their forties without doing an aquarelle course
…men in their forties without a sports car
…people in their thirties without identity- or purpose-
 of-their-life crisis
…people in their thirties without doing a yoga- or meditation
course to cope with this crisis
…etc.

So, it was obvious that I had to make my nieces (age 2 and 4) princess dresses. I mean, until they're about let’s say 12, they can wear whatever they like and everybody is going to think (and say) they look cute. I bet that if I would dress them up in a sausage costume, people will still tell them they look soooooo cute. I went to the zoo with my nieces who were wearing the princess dresses I made and it was amazing how much comments people made. At first, it was fun and nice. But after a while, I got fed up with it. Leave us alone! However, I guess that changing outfits to a sausage costume  won’t help (would be cool though, I might start working on that!). In addition, I am sure that my nieces wouldn’t want to wear it. After all, they’re cute little girls who need princess dresses.

So there I was, making princess dresses. I took two patterns for normal dresses (from the Dutch ‘Knipmode’) and bought lots of pink fabrics: princess dresses need to be pink. Although there are some exceptions: Belle’s (from Belle and the beast) dress for example is yellow and Cinderella's dress is blue. Anyway, to ensure my popularity as an aunt, I chose pink. My nieces wear the dresses all the time. I have to say I like one dress better (the one with the white-dotted pink fabric), but the younger niece is not so picky yet so I was lucky……
